HOTEL REVIEW: Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi

Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi can be found in the UAE capital’s new business and government districtThere’s been a spate of new hotel openings in Abu Dhabi this year, with one of the most memorable being Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi. After all, this is the much-loved brand’s first property in the UAE capital (and only it’s fifth in the Middle East), and they’ve gone all-out to impress!

In case you’re not familiar with Dusit Thani, here are some interesting tit-bits to give you a taster of what to expect. For starters, each of their hotels is designed using inspiration from a mythical utopian town offering ‘heaven on earth’. As a result, guests are treated to “a calm, fragrant and colourful environment, with every detail crafted to lift the spirit and engage the sense” (we cannot take credit for that description, its straight from the Dusit Thani website).

Sound great so far, right? Having been around for several decades now, Dusit Thani Hotels & Resorts are generally located near central business districts and major attractions. That’s the case with its Abu Dhabi property too, which can be found in the UAE capital’s new business and government district. It’s only a short taxi ride from the Corniche and Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, and pretty close to the Eastern Mangroves area too.

The five-star hotel’s eye-catching design has clear influences from Dusit Thani’s Thailand roots, while also paying homage to the welcoming grandeur of Arabian hospitality. This cultural combination meshes together well and helps the hotel to stand out from its growing list of contemporaries in Abu Dhabi.

Take your pick from a selection of 534 guest rooms and serviced apartments at Dusit Thani Abu DhabiTake your pick from a selection of 534 guest rooms and serviced apartments, which are spread over the hotel’s 37 storeys. Options range from standard deluxe rooms measuring 42 square metres each, right through to the lavish 450-square metre royal suite, with its very own reception hall, living area, dining space and private spa. Amazing, if you’re in the mood to splash out!

There’s also a mouth-watering selection of restaurants and bars on offer. We had dinner at Benjarong, an intimate and authentic Thai restaurant that promises to become an instant favourite with fans of Asian cuisine. Other options include Capital Grill (contemporary steak restaurant), Urban Kitchen (international buffet), and The Orchid (bar and lounge).

Thailand is world-famous for its fantastic spa facilities and the Dusit Thani doesn’t disappoint in this department either. Its upmarket Namm Spa has eight luxurious treatment suites that create a serene urban sanctuary for guests to relax and pamper themselves. We couldn’t resist booking a traditional Thai massage, which was the perfect way to unwind during our stay, especially when followed by a trip to the outdoor pool and sun deck (located on the 19th floor, near the DFiT Health Club, with stunning vistas over the capital's skyline).

The five-star hotel’s eye-catching design has clear influences from Dusit Thani’s Thailand rootsAnd finally, it seems Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi will be heavily promoting itself as a leading venue for meetings, seminars, conferences and other events (including weddings). Boasting of three ballrooms, six meeting rooms, two boardrooms and a stunning glass-panelled Skydome pre-function area, the hotel’s chances of successfully tapping into the market are pretty solid.

All-in-all, this is easily one of the stronger additions to Abu Dhabi’s hotel portfolio. Reviews on Trip Advisor seem to agree, with a respectable score of 71% at the time of publishing this article.

What’s more, if you’re tempted to visit the Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi for a ‘staycation’, holiday or business visit, now is a great time to book! The www.dusit.com website is offering a special opening promotion of Stay 3, Pay 2 until December 2013. If you do visit the hotel, don’t forget to give us your opinion by leaving a comment below!
