HOTEL REVIEW: Al Bustan Centre and Residence, Dubai

Al Bustan Centre and Residence in Dubai recently completed an extensive AED15 million renovationAl Bustan Centre and Residence is a veteran in Dubai’s tourism scene, famed for being among the first to offer spacious hotel apartments in the emirate. However, faced with increasing competition from younger entrants in the market, the property recently completed an extensive AED15 million renovation to strengthen its offering for existing guests and broaden its appeal for a new generation of customers.

The one-year renovation was completed in August 2014, in time for the influx of leisure and business travellers that arrive in Dubai during the peak winter season. Every single room at Al Bustan Centre and Residence – a massive 640 in total – has been completely revamped to feature modern amenities and contemporary designs.

“The new look is more sophisticated and vibrant, on par with new and upcoming properties in the market,” Chief Operating Officer Moussa El Hayek explains to during our recent stay. And we have to admit, he’s got a point!

Located 50 metres from Al Nahda Station on the Dubai Metro (in close proximity to the airport), Al Bustan Centre and Residence should not be confused with the nearby Al Bustan Rotana. Our GPS system almost directed us to the latter, but thankfully we were soon on the right path. There were plenty of spaces available in the large car park and after walking to the lobby, we were greeted with an army of friendly staff, who were quick to welcome us, collect our luggage and assist with the check-in process.

The hotel offers a range of studio, one bed, and two bed apartmentsThe hotel apartment can accommodate a maximum of 2,500 guests in six different blocks, which is pretty impressive! We were booked into a Club Suite, but guests are provided with a range of options, such as studio apartments measuring 350 square feet, one bedrooms measuring 750 square feet, and two bedrooms measuring a spacious 1,095 square feet, which is more than enough for a family of four.

Each option includes a kitchenette equipped with basic appliances like a cooker, toaster and refrigerator, in addition to a dining and living room space with flat panel TV. There is WiFi coverage in the entire hotel apartment, including free connectivity in all guest rooms for daily bookings and optional connectivity for monthly and yearly stays.

After settling into our room, it was time to explore the facilities. A major bonus with the Club Suite is complimentary access to the private lounge, where guests can relax, watch television, read the supplied newspapers or magazines, and indulge in refreshing beverages and delicious snacks. The lounge is modern, inviting and was never crowded during our stay. It was easily one of our favorite spots at the hotel.

If you are looking for more than a snack, there are two restaurants in the hotel. We tried the buffet and a la carte options at Fountain Restaurant for breakfast and lunch, and then switched to room service for dinner, as we were impressed with the vast selection of dishes on offer. The food was enjoyable and the staff were happy to prepare dishes based on our unique requirements, which was very accommodating.

The outdoor swimming pool is extremely popular for swimming lessons amongst local residentsIt should be noted that this is a dry hotel and alcohol is not available. We are sure this is part of the reason Al Bustan Centre & Residence is so popular amongst families, especially those from other parts of the UAE and neighboring GCC countries.

During our tour of the hotel, we checked out the business centre and meeting rooms, and the outdoor swimming pool – the pool is extremely popular for swimming lessons amongst local residents, so if you fancy a dip, time it correctly to avoid the rush.

Another unique touch is the fact that Al Bustan Centre and Residence is attached to a Mall, offering the convenience of onsite shopping. There are 95 outlets in total, with a nice combination of well-known brands like Paris Gallery, Damas and more. From gold to cosmetics, elegant evening gowns to colorful children’s clothing and accessories, Al Bustan Shopping Mall has plenty to help you complete the look.

There is also a food court area which aims to provide a “feel at home” ambience, serving dishes of Arabic, International, Italian, Chinese and Oriental flavors.  The Pastry Shop, Coffee Lounge, Manakish, and Juice/Ice Cream outlets are all within close reach.

As we only stayed for one night, there was enough to keep us entertained without having to step out of the hotel. Before checking out, we visited the fitness centre, which has separate gyms, steam rooms and saunas for men and women. We indulged in a one-hour relaxation massage at the Fitness Centre, which was simple and basic, but still fairly pleasant.

All-in-all, we enjoyed our stay and Al Bustan and Residence has definitely benefited from the recent renovation, making it a nice option in the hotel apartment category. Instead of competing with Dubai’s posh five-star hotels, the property understands the needs of its value-conscious audience and being family owed, the experience is a lot more personal. We would definitely consider staying here again in the future.

  1. Al Bustan Centre and Residence is a favorite and attractive place for visitors. It is a famous luxurious residential, shopping and entertainment complex located in Dubai. I visited this mall few months ago after my united states bus tours with my wife. She has great interest in shopping. It features spacious and comfortable facilities to its visitors.
